Flora A. Ibana Family Clinic
VISION MISSION STATEMENT
At the helm of the Mabini Colleges outreach project for Health Services is the Flora A. Ibana Lying-In And Family Health Clinic. Its main thrust is to provide education and training for its students and the surrounding community in order to implement its research and extension programs specially for those who have less in life.
The lying in clinic will support a home-based health care system that allows its constituencies to become more enlightened about basic health problems that are related to maternal and children’s health through education and the application of health care practices. The College of Nursing and Midwifery complements this effort through its mandate to educate its students not only for their professional improvement but also to inspire them to be of service to their fellow human beings.
THE HEALTH OFFICE PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING SERVICES & HEALTH CARE DELIVERY:
Medical and dental services manned by a team of professionals: two medical doctors, a dentist, a school nurse and trained volunteers and support staff.
A. Comprehensive Community-Based & Home-Based Health Care involving orientation exposures and field immersion of health volunteers and a selected pool of professionals to depressed communities in the province of Camarines Norte.
B. Medical & Dental Services
Ambulatory care: general medical-surgical, normal deliveries & pediatrics, including adolescent and adult counseling servicesCase referrals of health management
The Health office coordinates with other health institutions for laboratory requests and diagnostics which are outsourced, and refers cases that require further evaluation and management.
RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION
A. Community - Based Participatory Research (COPAR)
The clinic applies a modified COPAR to address the need for patient engagement where patients are encouraged to take an active role as key players in protecting their health. It aims at patient-focused quality interventions and cost-effectiveness.
B. Nursing Clinic Mini-Library
The health office sorts and integrates pertinent documents and materials on evidence-based practice and clinical practice guidelines to faculty and all who need information. It facilitates updates on medical and nursing practice standards.
TRAINING / ORIENTATION EXPOSURES / IMMERSION OF HEALTH VOLUNTEERS
This consists of program topics for health volunteers and health care students prior to or during actual volunteer duties based on clinic schedules. It prioritizes perspective- setting and deepening sessions for career orientations and alternative lifestyles in order to inculcate commitment as a health volunteer and future health professional.
The FAI Clinic positions itself as a research-based and evidence-based practice clinic which is dialogic, scientific, service-oriented to those who are most in need. It seeks to partner with Rural Health Units at the Barangay level in order to reach out to clients who do not have access to hospitals and medical clinics.
FUTURE PLANS: A MATERNAL AND HEALTH CARE CENTER
In order to further extend its services, the lying in clinic is planning to expand by positioning itself as a clearing house of nurses, midwives and health education workers who can be deployed on-call to far-flung communities, unmanned health centers, and during emergency cases.
As an educational institution, the center seeks to prevent diseases by disseminating information about sanitation, nutrition and a healthy life-style. Diagnostic and discussion rooms, baby-minding facilities for working mothers and herbal medicines will be made available to the community at large.
A vacant lot near the MC campus is allocated for this future facility.
